Funding has been secured by Sinn Fein for gates to installed at Epworth and Ernest Street in the Rosemount area of Derry in an arrangement with the PSNI and the Housing Executive, Cllr Mickey Cooper has said.
Cllr Cooper said Derry City Council would now appoint a contractor and process payment to ensure the gates were installed “as soon as possible” to help local residents to feel safe in their homes and remove the various anti-social issues which have “blighted” the community in recent years.
The Sinn Fein representative added: “I am glad that I have finally crossed the line in pulling the funding together for the installation of these gates.
“The problem being encountered by residents in the Rosemount area has been well published in the local press over the past few years.
Cllr Cooper said the PSNI and Housing Executive would provide the funding for the gates which he had arranged to be forwarded to Derry City Council who would administer the payments to the appointed contractor.
He concluded: “I have also secured the three necessary quotations to ensure the funding is adequate for the project.”
