Two teenage IRA members killed by their own bomb in Derry 40 years ago today will be remembered at commemoration ceremony being held in the city tonight.
David Russell (18), a Protestant, and Gerard Craig (17), both from the Shantallow area, died when a bomb intended for the Superfare store on Greenhaw Road exploded prematurely while they were carrying it the supermarket’s car park on the afternoon of 24 June, 1974.
Tonight’s ceremony will take place at 7.00pm at the republican memorial in front of the Shantallow shops.
Meanwhile, the annual commemoration to remember deceased Derry IRA members will take place in the City Cemetery on Sunday next, 29 June.
