Institute and former Derry City striker Stephen Parkhouse has announced his retirement from senior football.
Parkhouse, whose much-travelled career also included spells with Manchester City, Glentoran and Sligo Rovers, revealed his decision to “hang up his boots” was as a result of him not being able to perform to a level that he wold be “happy” with.
He said: “I’ve decided to retire from senior football due to niggly injuries and because I don’t feel that I can perform to a level that I’d be happy with anymore.”
“It’s a very strange feeling, and I’d like to wish Institute FC all the best in the Premiership next season, and to all the staff and players that I’ve worked with in my career, it’s been an absolute pleasure.”
Parkhouse found the back of the net eight times for Institute last season as the Drumahoe club clinched promotion to the Dankse Premiership and the Championship title.
Thanking him for his services to the club over the years, an Institute spokesperson said: “the Institute committee would like to thank ‘Parky’ for his contribution to the club.”
