A good start is half the battle but George Jackson (11) made nonsense of that old adage in winning the Open Stableford at City of Derry yesterday with a magnificent 44 points that started with a blank on the very first hole.
Despite that setback he still managed a creditable 20 points on the first nine and then proceeded to birdie two holes on the back nine to add a further 24 points for an unbeatable score to clinch is second victory this month having already won the Everglades Hotel Open.
Phillip Greer (10) played well to finish second on 40 points, a single point ahead of immediate past captain Michael McCullough who was best of a trio on 39 points, a vital 23 of them coming on the back nine.
James Lindsay (0) won the gross prize with 38 points.
