blood-donation-transfusion-pic-rex-image-1-169611750-113993The Blood Transfusion Service will be holding blood donations sessions in Derry today.

Sinn Fein Cllr Sandra Duffy has urged members of the public to go along to the sessions being held at St Brigid’s College on the Glengalliagh Road in Carnhill between 2.00pm-4.15pm and 5.30pm-8.00pm.

Cllr Duffy: “Blood donation is very important for the proper delivery of health care. Each year thousands of patients require blood transfusions in our hospitals, because they are undergoing surgery, recovering from cancer or have been in a serious accident.

There is a lot of pressure placed on the Blood Transfusion Service particularly over the summer with people being away on holidays.”

Cllr Duffy added: “They have said that the need for blood is constant, with 500 patients in the north needing transfusions each week, but at this time of year it can be particularly difficult to maintain their blood stocks.
