A Waterside community group is to hold a fireworks display as an alternative to an “11th Night” bonfire.
The Caw/Nelson Drive Action Group (CNDAG) intends to stage the display as part of a number of day-long activities in Kilfennan Valley Park on 11 July next.
The group is seeking permission from Derry City Council to stage the display which is expected to attract several hundred people.
The display is the fifth event to be staged by CNDAG in the park but will be their first fireworks display.
The event, funded by Department of Finance, Department of Social Development and the Northern Ireland Housing, will include a marquee, disco, games competitions, BBQ and bouncy castles.
The event will be free to the public and will take place from 11.00am until 11.00pm.
Members of Derry City Council’s Environmental Services Committee are expected to give the event the go-ahead at their monthly meeting tomorrow.
