A 62 year old Derry man who used another man’s identity to claim over £10,000 in benefits he was not entitled to over a 15 year period has been jailed for nine months at Derry Crown Court.
Patrick McPhillips, of River Court in the city, used the name of another man to falsely claim Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseekers’ Allowance, Housing Benefit between 24 March 1997 and 5 July 2012.
He also faced a further charge of fraud by false representation and possessing an article to be used in fraud, namely a letter addressed to another man on 14 August 2012.
The court heard the amount involved totalled £10,800.
