Rodney Smyth (20) was the clear winner of yesterday’s weekly Thursday Open at City of Derry.
His 41 well compiled points that also included a blank at “Dermot’s” leaving him two points ahead of second placed Ronan Coyle (10) and Conor Wisener (11), their positions being decided by a count back that fell in Ronan’s favour.
Conor, who just recently joined the club, will be well pleased with his first podium place.
Conor Given (20) had the distinction of matching the best score of the day with his 41 points and won the junior section of the competition.
James Lindsay (0) had the best gross of the day, a surprisingly low 31 points being good enough to take that prize.
Jackson claims Vice President’s Prize
The Vice Captain’s (John Rosborough) Prize, played for on Wednesday evening over 13 holes. was won by club’s hard working webmaster Malachy Jackson (12) with 28 points, a score that was matched by the club captain Bob McKimm (14), but Malachy’s stronger finish gave him the verdict on a count back.
Dermot Hegarty (13) was third on 27 points and the best of the ladies competing was Kathleen O Doherty (25) with 22 points with Frances McLaughlin (22) taking second place
