There are fears in Strabane about the future of jobs at one of the town’s largest employers.
Asda has announced it was cutting 1,360 posts at its stores across Britain and Northern Ireland as part of an overhaul of its store management.
The company’s Strabane store – one of the largest employers in the town – attracts customers from across the North West and Donegal.
Strabane SDLP Cllr Patsy Kelly said staff at the store were “understandably concerned`’ and revealed he was seeking reassurances from Asda there would be no job losses in Strabane.
It is not known if the “overhaul” will affect the number of jobs to be created when Asda opens its first store in Derry.
It had been anticipated 350 jobs would be created when the company opens a store at Crescent Link in the Waterside.
