An appeal has gone to out to help a distraught Derry family to be at the bedside of their sister who has taken seriously ill while holidaying in Portugal.
The woman is due to undergo surgery this Tuesday in a Faro hospital after which she will not be allowed to travel home for another four weeks at least.
Derry SDLP MLA, Pat Ramsey, has appealed to anyone who could provide somewhere for the family to stay as they have been unable to find accommodation in the Algarve captial due to the high season.
Mr Ramsey said: “I have been contacted by a family from Derry who have a sister who has taken very ill while out in holiday in Faro, Portugal.
“Unfortunately, the lady’s lung has collapsed and is due for surgery this Tuesday.
“Because of this, she will not be able to travel home for another four weeks at least.
“The immediate family are presently struggling finding accommodation to rent, they have tried online and in Faro but due to the a high season, there is very limited property available.”
Mr Ramsey concluded: “Could I please ask my friends if they have or may know of someone who has property in Faro and would be keen to help out this family to contact me immediately as they are in real dilemma.”
