History was made yesterday when Eamon Maxwell (21) won Bob McKimm’s Captain’s Prize at City of Derry Golf Club.
Eamon carded an excellent 40 points on a blustery but quite sunny day to follow in the footsteps of his son, Eddie, who won the same coveted prize just two years ago – the first Father and son to take the prestigious accolade.
A triple tie break on 39 points broke in favour of Paul Glackin (13) for the second place, Andy Meenagh (13), the club’s hard working honorary secretary, finished in third spot with Aldwyn Leckey (11) fourth.
Stephen McKeegan (3) shot 35 points for best gross while the 5-9,10-17 and 18-28 categories were won respectively by Alfie Kane (9), with 37 points, Martin McCormick (15) with 38 points and Michael Carroll (20) with 38 points.
Best of the veterans was Christy Donaghy (11) on 38 points while the Young Adult prize went to James Lindsay (0) on 37 points.
Foyle Golf Club captain Chris Lynch (7) was the best of the captain’s guests with 35 points and the two nines were won by David Bradley (13), 22 points, and Dennis O Connell (22) on 23 points.
Anne Murphy (18) had 37 points to win ladies’ prize and she was followed home by Christine Mitchell (27) on 34 points break of tie and Betty McBride (17).
Ross Hunter (5) took home the junior prize followed by Matthew Orr (9) and Jordan Dunn.
The presentation of the prizes were preceded by a dinner hosted by the captain and his wife Pauline, with accompanying music by “Them 2.”
