The family of a Derry woman seriously ill in Portugal who appealed for help in finding accommodation to be by her bedside have found a place to stay and have expressed their “deep appreciation” to those who contacted them with offers of help.
The family’s sister is seriously ill in a hospital in Faro in the Algarve after falling ill while holidaying in the region.
She was due to undergo surgery today but that has been postponed as she is “too unwell.”
When the operation does take place, she is expected not to be able to travel home for at least four weeks.
The family, through Derry SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey, had appealed to anyone who could provide somewhere for the them to stay as they were unable to find accommodation in Faro due to the high season.
Mr Ramsey said the family had now secured “most suitable accommodation.”
He said: “The family of the lady that has taken ill while on holiday in Faro have been in contact with me as they have secured a most suitable accommodation.
“They want to acknowledge and commend all those who made direct contact and are deeply appreciative of all the help, good wishes and prayers.
“The sister’s surgery has been delayed due to her being unwell but hopefully the operation will take place later on this week.”
Mr Ramsey concluded: “if you would continue to keep her in your prayers that everything goes well this week and she is soon on the road to recovery that will enable her to come home.”
