A number of walking events are to be held throughout this month showcasing the rich, natural and built heritage of the scenic Faughan Valley.
Jonathan Henderson, landscape officer, said from guided, woodland family walks to challenging hill walks, there was a walking occasion to suit everyone and along the way experienced guides would educate people on “this natural and historical landscape.”
He added: “The Faughan Valley is a beautiful and diverse area for walking and contains numerous sites of natural and built heritage interest, from early christian churches to ancient woodlands and the gentle, rolling peaks of the Sperrins.
“These walking events will aim to get people engaged in the natural and built heritage on their doorstep, whilst hopefully encouraging more people to get out and get walking regularly. Walking is a great way to improve both your mental and physical health, whilst also providing the opportunity to become more socially active.”
A bus will be provided to bring participants to walking venues, with collection points at St. Columb’s Park, Waterside and from the RAPID Ltd offices, 2 Foreglen Road in Killaloo.
