A 23-year-old man has been seriously injured in an assault which occurred shortly after a car crashed into a house and four other vehicles in the Creggan area of Derry in the early hours of this morning.
Police in the city have said four men were arrested following a “disturbance” in Ballymagowan Avenue at about 01.30am.
The assaulted man was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for treatment to assault injuries which police have described as “serious.”
The four men have been detained on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and motoring offences.
A PSNI spokesperson said police received a report of a disturbance after a car had collided with other vehicles and a house in the Ballymagowan Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle ploughed through a metal barrier at the front of the property before crashing into the house itself, damaging its brickwork.
The driver then reversed the car out of the garden and drove away.
