Michael McDaid (14) took advantage of an early start that avoided the rain that came later in the day to record his winning 41 points in the Rathowen Cup at City of Derry yesterday.
His 22 points on the front nine were followed by 19 on the back nine that included a blank on the “Foyle” hole.
This year’s Ulster Cup captain, Gary Leckey (10), continued his singular winning match play form to take second place albeit on a tie break with 40 points over rising young star Mark Sheridan (16).
Gary’s new acquired single figure handicap has ruled him out of a playing role for next year’s Ulster Cup but the captain’s role can still be his.
James Lindsay (+1) gave his chances in the forthcoming North of Ireland Championship a big boost with his winning best gross score of 38 points.
Meanwhile, the Lady Captain, Marie Clifford, invites all members (ladies and gents) to play in her Scramble on Tuesday next, 22 July at 5.30pm.
Entries are now being taken in the Pro-Shop and by phone on 02871311496.
