Maeve Maher-McWilliams, from the local North West Triathlon Club, took the honours in the ladies’ category of today’s firmus energy City of Derry Triathlon.
Thousands took the banks of the River Foyle and the city centre streets to cheer on almost 500 participants from across the North, the Republic, Britain and further afield who took part in a 750 metre water swim, a 20 kilometre cycle and five kilometre run.
Maher-McWilliams, second in last year’s inaugural event, completed the course in 1.14.13 ahead of Antrim’s Laura Wylie from High Elbow club to the post, who took second place in 1.14.28 with Katherine Woods, of the Triangle Triathlon Club, third in 1.15.25.
Neville O’Neill, from the Olympian Club in Belfast, took the men’s event in 1.03.07 ahead of Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games hopeful Harry Speers, from Bangor, who posted 1.03.41.
Third place went to Lorcan Healy, from Omagh Triathlon Club, who recorded a time of 1.03.52.
