The Motor Tax Office in Derry will close for good at the close of business today.
The office at Orchard House on Foyle Street is one of several offices across the North closing as a result of a number of changes being introduced the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA).
From next Monday, 21st July, people who wish to tax or register their vehicles will have to do so at the Post Office or online at https://www.gov.uk/tax-disc.
They will no longer be able to tax or register vehicles at DVA offices in Northern Ireland either face-to-face, by telephone or by post.
This is due to the DVLA in Swansea taking over full responsibility for all vehicle licensing services from next week.
From Monday 21 July, when the DVLA in Swansea takes over full responsibility for all vehicle licensing services, people who wish to tax or register their vehicles must do this online here or at a post office.
Specifically, if people want to tax a car tomorrow, the handover period of data to Swansea, they will need to go to the Post Office.
The move has meant hundreds of job losses for the north, most of them at the main DVA office in Coleraine.
