Digital communications company EE is on course to employ 300 people at a new customer service centre in Derry by December this year, according to Foyle SDLP MP Mark Durkan.
Mr Durkan, who instigated the EE investment in the city after meeting with company representatives at an information event in Westminster, has revealed he has received correspondence from the EE team confirming their plans to have recruited and trained around 100 advisors by the end of July and to be at full strength at the start of December in time for the pre-Christmas surge.
Mr Durkan added: “When I first spoke to EE representatives at an information event in Parliament after their brand launch they promised to look at the city as a possible location.
“They were interested by the City of Culture, Digital Derry, CultureTech, Project Kelvin, the Super Connected status and the experience of other companies.
“True to their word they followed up that interest and engaged positively with Invest NI.”
Mr Durkan said EE’s decision to create a new customer service centre in Derry was a vote of confidence in the city as an investment location and also recognition of the calibre of the local workforce.
He concluded: “I once again commend the EE team on their commitment and look forward to welcoming them on the commencement of operations.”
