A former journalist whose uncle was the first person shot dead on Bloody Sunday has taken over as chairperson of a trust which aims to preserve the memories of those killed.
Julieann Campbell, a former reporter with the Derry Journal , is the first woman to chair the Bloody Sunday Trust.
She takes over from Conal McFeely who announced last month he was stepping down from the post.
Julieann is a niece of 17-year-old Jackie Duddy, the first person shot dead on Bloody Sunday.
Author of “Setting the Truth Free,” the award winning account of the Bloody Sunday families’ long campaign for justice, she has been a trustee since 2009 and vice-chair since 2012.
Four years ago, she took on the role of press officer for the families and injured ahead of the publication of the report of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry.
She said: “I’m delighted to be taking on this role at such an important phase in the Trust’s history and I would like to thank the Bloody Sunday Trust for their decision to appoint me as chairperson.”
