Mindless vandals responsible for putting traffic lights “out of order” in the Templemore area of Derry have been slammed by Sinn Fein Cllr Sandra Duffy.
Calling on those responsible for the “wanton act of vandalism” to consider the ramifications of their actions, Cllr Duffy said the traffic lights were now “out of order” after being smashed and paint bombed.
Cllr Duffy added:r “This is a major arterial thoroughfare which not only services a number of residential developments but carries a high volume of cross border traffic.
‘These lights provide safety for pedestrians – particularly children – accessing the sports complex and residential areas along the Buncrana Road.”
Cllr Duffy revealed she had Road Services who, she added, had assured her they would address the issue “as a matter of urgency.”
She added: “But I would appeal to those people who have endangered the lives of pedestrians by this reckless disregard for others, to refrain from this type of activity.”
Cllr Duffy concluded: “The potential for accidents created by this activity could involve one of your own family members or even yourself.”
