If Derry City are to progress to the next round of the Europa League against Shakhtyor Soligorsk, they must do something they have never done before – overturn a deficit from a home leg.
The Brandywell club have won on their travels in in Europe – most memorably against IFK Goteborg and Gretna in the 2006-2007 Uefa Cup qualifiers and, of course, two weeks ago in Aberystwyth – but they face a tough task if they are to win tonight’s second round qualifying away leg in Belarus.
Shakhtyor hold a a 1-0 lead from last Thursday’s first leg clash in Brandywell and, although the goal came via a schoolboy error by defender Ryan McBride, they showed they are quite capable of scoring more goals.
Tonight’s game in Stroitel Stadium kicks off at 6.00pm (Irish time).
