MTV-003Confirmation this afternoon that an  “MTV Crash” gig  is to be staged in Derry on 19-20 September next has been welcomed by SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan who said the event would provide a “great opportunity” for the city to “star in the eyes and ears of millions.”

Mr Durkan, who held discussions with MTV in 2012 about trying to find a suitable location for them to come to the city, said he was delighted international stars would be taking part in the event which is to be screened across MTV’s music channels.

Tickets for the gig, which will also feature local acts, will go on sale on 9 August when details of headline acts will be announced.

Mr Durkan said: “I’m delighted so many people will have the chance to see stars of international calibre come to them to perform in the special setting of Ebrington – which is a stage in its own right overlooking an impressive cityscape.

“Once again, there will be an incredible atmosphere in Derry.

“I’m also delighted for all of the local acts who will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a global audience.”

Mr Durkan concluded: “This is another great opportunity for Derry to star in the eyes and ears of millions, and is an excellent addition to Music City 2014.”
