Derry’s Eurovision Song Contest winner, Dana, has described her brother, John, as a “good innocent man” following his acquittal of five counts of historical sex abuse.
John Brown (60), with an address in Bracknell, Berkshire in England, denied all five charges throughout the three-week trial at Harrow Crown Court.
Speaking outside the court, an emotional Mr Brown thanked his sister, who had given evidence on his behalf during the trial, for her support.
An emotional Mr Brown described his three year ordeal as “horrific.”
Mr Brown said: “I came here an innocent man, I will be leaving an innocent man.
“I want to thank my friends, family and friends who have supported me with their prayers and support, in particular my sister Rosemary.
“I particularly want to thank my wife, Patricia, and my children for their support in an horrific three years.”
Earlier, Dana wept and she hugged her brother following the jury verdict.
Fighting back tears outside, she said: “He is a good man, a good innocent man.”
The allegations came to light during Dana’s Irish presidency campaign.
At the time, she described them as “vile and malicious.”
Mr Brown was found not guilty of indecent assault against two girls, aged 13 and 16, at several locations in Northern Ireland and England during the 1970s.
He had denied all of the accusations and that his sister had helped him to cover up the allegations.
The jury of six men and six women found him not guilty of two charges relating to the first complainant this morning and in the afternoon acquitted him of the three remaining counts relating to the second after a total of 11 hours and 54 minutes deliberation.
