A £90,000 road improvement scheme announced for Sion Mills has been welcomed by Sinn Fein representatives for the area.
MLA Michaela Boyle and Cllr Maoliosa McHugh said the scheme, due to begin tomorrow, was “excellent news.”
They were speaking after Transport Minister Danny Kennedy’s confirmed the go-ahead to improve the corner located approximately 700 metres from the A5 Melmount Road junction on the B165 Bellspark Road.
The work is expected to last until 20 September during which period a controlled two-way traffic flow will be in operation.
In a joint statement, Ms Boyle and Cllr McHugh said: “This is excellent news for anyone who lives on and travels this road on a regular basis.”
“This scheme will greatly improve the road safety for all users by widening the carriageway and grass verges to improve the forward sight distance on this stretch of road.”
