An overnight fire at Sinn Fein’s headquarters in Derry is being treated as  arson by police

A  rear window on the party’s offices on Eastway, on the edge of Creggan estate, was broken and a flammable liquid poured in shortly before midnight.unnamed-1

Three appliances attended the scene and contained the blaze to a small section of the building.

Sinn Fein Derry MLA Raymond McCartney said “those with a criminal mentality” were responsible.

He added: “Our message is very clear. Many people have tried to put obstacles in front of Sinn Fein. They have failed and so will those who carried out this attack.”

Mr McCartney said the offices would be open “as soon as possible” and it would be “business as usual”

A PSNI spokesperson asked anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area contact police on the 101 non emergency telephone number.
