At around 1.00am, a youth was seen pouring flammable over three vehicles in Merriman Court.
Minor damage was caused to two of the vehicles.
A PSNI spokesperson said “at this stage” a motive had not been established.
The youth was wearing a white hooded top and the spokesperson said police at Strand Road were keen to hear from anyone who could help identify him.
The spokesperson said information could be given on the police non-emergency 101 telephone number.
Alternatively, it can be provided to the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
