Derry nurse Janice Reid has been elected as chairperson of the Association for Continence Advice (ACA), the first nurse in Northern Ireland to hold the prestigious position.
Based at Rectory Field in the city, Janice is the Co-Ordinator/linical Lead for Continence Services in the Western Health and Social Care Trust.
The ACA is recognised as a high level organisation for professionals who in turn have a voice in parliament.
Alan Corry Finn, Western Trust Executive Director of Nursing and Director of Primary Care and Older Peoples Services, congratulated Janice on her “great achievement.”
He added: “I would like to congratulate Janice Reid on this great achievement. Janice is an outstanding nurse and a driven team leader.
“This achievement demonstrates this and we are very fortunate to have Janice working within the Trust leading and developing services which will benefit patients and their families across the Western Trust area.”
Janice has been a member of ACA since 2004 and held the position of treasurer with the Northern Ireland branch from 2005 until May this year.
She said she was delighted to have been elected chairperson of the ACA.
She added: “I am looking forward to the next chapter now as chair and would like to see our association continue to grow from strength to strength.”
As Director of Primary Care and Older Peoples Services with the Western Health Trust, Janice is responsible for managing continence services, leading a team of specialist nurses.
Her role involves clinical practice, leadership, service planning, research and audit, practice development and education planning and delivery.
