Police in Strabane have been congratulated following the discovery of bomb parts in the town earlier this week.
The PSNI revealed officers from the Serious Crime Branch found component parts for an explosive device during a search of a derelict outhouse in the Carrigullin Road area of the town on Monday.
Thomas Buchanan, local DUP MLA, congratulated the PSNI following the discovery.
He said: “I am pleased that the PSNI has succeeded in retrieving the parts for a bomb in Strabane.
“It is a sad reality of life that there is still a tiny element of extremists who are determined to drag Northern Ireland back in to the dark days of the recent past. Unfortunately for them, the huge bulk of people in Northern Ireland are equally determined that they will not be allowed to succeed.
“I congratulate the police on their success at taking these instruments of destruction out of circulation.
“We all know that the terrorists only have to be lucky once to inflict suffering and bloodshed on the community.”
Mr Buchanan concluded: “That is why it is absolutely vital that everyone gives their fullest support to the police who do so much to keep us safe.”
