Loyalists are looking to parade through predominantly nationalist Castlederg for the 18th time this year.
The Parades Commission is to consider an application from Castlederg Young Loyalists Flute Band to stage the parade in the Co Tyrone town on 20 September next.
The parade, which will feature 88 bands and expected to attract 2,000 participants and supporters, will take place between 8.00pm and 11.00pm.
The planned route is – main car park, lower Strabane Road, Albert Street, lower Main Street, upper Main Street, John Street, High Street, Hospital Road, Young Crescent, Upper Strabane Road, William Street, The Diamond, lower Main Street, McCay Court and main car park.
Sinn Fein councillor for the area, Ruairi McHugh, said such a parade would see the town “locked down” and hit out at the organisers for not talking to representatives of the local community.
Cllr McHugh said: “Once again the people of Castlederg will see the town locked down due to a large loyalist parade in the town in September.
“This will be the 18th loyalist parade in Castlederg since January.
“There has been no attempt by those applying for these parades to enter into any form of dialogue with community representatives, residents or business people, something the Parades Commission places great emphasis on.
“Nobody is saying the Protestant community are not entitled to celebrate their cultural identity and heritage but there needs to be some common sense shown and consideration given to others in the town in terms of the number of parades and flags in what at the end of the day are in a town where the majority of residents do not come from the unionist tradition.”
The Parades Commission will consider the application on 10 September.
Meanwhile, the Commission has placed conditions on morning and evening parades in the town by the Apprentice Boys of Derry Campsie Club on 9 August.
