The gun attack on police in Derry has been condemned by Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney.
No one was injured when the armoured window on the driver’s side of the unmarked silver 4×4 vehicle was struck by two bullets fired as it travelled along Westland Street in the Bogside area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Mr McCartney said the attack, being blamed on dissident republicans, was “totally reckless.”
He added: “Westland Street is a busy thoroughfare and this attack put the lives of many people at risk.
“Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident but we could have been faced with a tragedy
“Those behind this attack have nothing to offer society and are not representative of the people of Derry.”
Mr McCartney concluded: “They need to immediately desist from these futile actions.”
