Fears have been expressed a child could be killed by the collapse of a wall in Derry.
Sinn Féin Councillor Christopher Jackson is concerned the wall in the Waterside area of the city will collapse unless immediate action is taken.
Residents have also expressed concern about the unsafe condition of a retaining wall at Distillery Close.
The wall is leaning and large cracks have appeared on its surface and Cllr Jackson is concerned a large section could collapse “at any minute” unless immediate action is taken to secure it.
He added: “As children are out of school at the minute many are playing in the vicinity of the wall and if it collapses we are most certainly looking at a fatality.
“I have contacted Building Control on several occasions who have been in contact with the owner in order to have the wall repaired and secured.”
Cllr Jackson concluded: “I am calling on the owner to carry out this work immediately as they could be held responsible for any death or injury caused by this wall collapsing.”
