Institute continued their preparations to return to the Irish League Premiership with a well-earned one-nil victory over SSE Airtricity Premier Division leaders Dundalk at The Riverside.
It is the second time Stute have faced former Derry City manager’s Stephen Kenny’s Lilywhites in pre-season, the first game at Oriel ending 3-0 in favour of the Co Louth side.
Stephen Curry’s goal proved to be the match winner against a youthful Dundalk at Drumahoe in a game the home side could have won by more goals if Stephen O’Flynn, Lee Toland and Darren McBride had taken the chances that came their way.
The performance delighted Stute boss Paul Kee.
He said: “It was a good game, I’m very pleased with the intensity of it, it was quick, it was fast, it was what the players needed, and we dealt with anything that Dundalk managed to throw at us.
“I feel that we could potentially have grabbed a few more goals, but it was a decent work-out and they provided us with a good, stiff test – they have some very talented young players in that team.
“It’s all systems go getting ready for the Dungannon fixture, and this is the type of match that we need to get prepared – we play a North West select team on Friday night and that should be another good encounter for us.”
