Sean McGlinchey: coming home with a bronze medal.
Derry fighter Sean McGlinchey has failed in his bid to become a champion at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Despite putting up a brave battle, the 22-year-old Oak Leaf boxer, from Creggan, lost his semi-final bout in the light heavyweight division on a unanimous points decision to 18-year-old New Zealander David Nyika, named “Best Boxer” at the 2013 Youth Championships.
Sean will no doubt receive a hero’s welcome when he returns to Derry with his bronze medal.
Derry’s hopes of at least a silver medal at the boxing in Glasgow now rest with Connor Coyle.
The 24-year-old, of St Joseph’s ABC in Galliagh, faces the highly-rated Indian Vijender Singh in the semi-finals of the middleweight division this evening
