Derry’s winning streak in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division came to an end with a two-nil defeat against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght last night.
In a first half of few, clearcut chances Rovers – managed by former city boss Pat Fenlon during the week following the departure last weekend from the Hoops of Trevor Coly – Derry boss Peter Hutton would have been pleased by his side’s performance.
The opening goal came on the 61st minute when a cross to the back post from Kieran Marty Waters allowed Dean Kelly to head the ball back across goal to Ronan Finn who nodded the ball into the top corner.
The home side extended their lead in the 70th minute when Dean Kelly headed home a Finn cross.
