Police are appealing to people to remove the keys from their vehicles and lock them when they leave it, for even the shortest time.
The appeal follows an incident at 8.00am on Sunday morning when a motorist had his vehicle stolen in Strabane.
The motorist had stopped at a the Spar shop on the Derry Road and entered the premises, leaving the car engine running.
While inside, a thief seized the opportunity to steal the vehicle.
A PSNI spokesperson said as a result of good police work, technology and an “element of luck,” the vehicle was stopped in Newtownstewart a short time later and a foreign national arrested.
He appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court yesterday charged with a number of offences, including theft of a vehicle.
