The Roads Service have been called on to take action to alleviate the dangers at what has been described as the “nightmare” junction at Bradley’s Pass in the Shantallow area of Derry.
Welcoming the near completion new houses in the area, SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins said the existing junction and adjoining thoroughfares were “still not adequate.”
Cllr Dobbins said: “I raised this issue when this development received planning permission.
“I fully empathise with the need for houses to help alleviate the ongoing housing crisis; the junction from Bradleys Pass onto Glengalliagh Road remains a nightmare with long queues of traffic. There have also been frequent accidents.
“Soon, we will have more traffic on the main road resulting in longer delays.
“I am demanding DRD Roads Service to take appropriate action now.
“These houses have now been allocated with tenants due to take up residence in mid-September yet the roads still remain inadequate.
“The Bradley’s Pass-Glengalliagh Road junction is downright dangerous.
“The access from this development is approximately 30 m from the junction, 10m from Leafair junction, which will soon be used to accommodate construction vehicles for the upgrade of Leafair pavilion, and 50m from Lenamore junction.”
She concluded: “Furthermore with traffic in and out of the Chapel, shopping centre and with the school term commencing soon, it beggars belief that this road and these issues have still not been addressed.”
