A former Derry Gaelic football captain is being treated in hospital after collapsing on the pitch during a club match earlier tonight.
Former All-Star Kevin McCloy was playing for his club side Lavey against Magherafelt in a second round championship game at Owenbeg in Dungiven when he became ill ten minutes into the game which was abandoned
After being treated by paramedics on the pitch, the 35-year-old was rushed to Altnagelvin Hospital.
His club have since said he has shown “signs of improvement” and asked people to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.
The club tweeted: “Our captain Kevin McCloy has now been transferred to the hospital and is showing signs of improvement.”
Clubs, players and the general public have also taken to Twitter to offer their support for the GAA stalwart.
