Translink has been called on to provide a bus service to the Rossnagalliagh area in Derry.
The call comes from SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney who said passengers from the area currently must walk a “considerable distance” to access the local bus service.
Cllr Tierney said following representations by him, Translink has agreed to investigate the feasibility of locating a bus stop in Rossnagalliagh.
The Shantallow councillor said: “The nearest bus stops to residents of Rossnagalliagh are located at College Glen and Moss Park, quite a considerable walking distance.
“I believe it is too far to expect passengers, many of whom are elderly, to walk in order to access this essential service.
“I have spoken to Translink about the issue following several complaints and they have agreed to test the route to investigate the possibility of a extending the service into Rossnagalliagh.”
Cllr Tierney concluded: “I am hopeful that the issue can be resolved to the satisfaction of bus users in the area as soon as possible.”
