Played in difficult conditions, it took a countback to separate the top two scores in Open Meal Deal at North West Golf Club on Saturday.
Paul B Murray, thanks to a better back nine, pipped Neil Carlin to secure first place,
both players returning scores of 38 points.
Seventeen handicapper Sean McGee took third place, one point adrift.
It’s very seldolm that a golfer takes 11 shots at the opening hole and still finishes in the prizes, even more so when it’s the gross prize – Sean Bridge (7) showed his determination and fighting spirit to cover the next 17 holes in four over gross, which included a double-bogey at the 15th hole, to secure an unexpected best gross of the day with an 81.
Of the 70 golfers who played on Saturday no one managed to score a “two” at the 90 yard par three, 16th hole.
