Derry City make the long trip south tonight for an SSE Airtricity Premier Division clash with Limerick FC (kick off 7.45pm).
City returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 over Malahide at Brandywell on Friday night last – which came on the back of three straight league defeats in which the Candystripes failed to find the back of the next.
The sides drew 0-0 at Brandywell in April when Roddy Collins was in charge of the Candystripes.
His successor, Peter Hutton, is expecting a tough game at Thomond Park tonight as Martin Russell’s side will be looking for a fourth win in five outings tonight.
Limerick, who bounced back from their narrow defeat to Dundalk with an impressive win over reigning champions Saint Patrick’s Athletic a week ago, are bidding to record a third straight home win, having put together back-to-back 4-1 successes over Shamrock Rovers and Bray Wanderers earlier this month.
They have won three of their last four games while at home and have taken 12 of the last 15 points available – their only defeat at Thomond Park in that period came in the final minute against Bohemians on 4 July.
Derry, meanwhile, ended their losing run by overcoming Malahide United in the FAI Cup Last 16 at The Brandywell on Friday night, thanks to second-half goals from Patrick McEleney, Michael Duffy and Philip Lowry.
