The PSNI have revealed they removed “copious” amounts of alcohol from hired coaches taking music fans to the recent Tennents Vital concert in Belfast.
Sergeant Ian Hunt, from the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Limavady, said: “All passengers were in good spirits and understood that consuming alcohol on a bus is illegal, which comes with a large fine.
“Better to arrive sober at the venue and enjoy the show than not remember anything about it.”
The move was part of a campaign launched in Derry prompted by a major incident at the DJ Hardwell concert at the Odyssey Arena in February when 17 young people were taken to hospital and around a hundred more treated by paramedics for the effects of alcohol and drugs.
It was claimed at the time, a bus hired to take young people from Derry to the gig “resembled a mini off-licence.”
