SDLP Magherafelt Councillor Christine McFlynn has expressed condolences to the family of the elderly woman who died after being struck by an articulated lorry in the centre of Magherafelt yesterday.
Rhoda Kearney (81), who was from the town, died in the accident which happened shortly after 12.10pm in Broad Street.
Cllr McFlynn said: “This is heartbreaking news that has saddened and stunned the local community.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends at this devastating time.”
“My thoughts are also with the driver involved in this tragic incident.”
Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident.
PSNI Inspector Alan Hutton appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Broad Street around the time of the incident to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station or local police at Magherafelt on the non-emergency number 101.
