Derry MLA Raymond McCartney was among a Sinn Fein delegation which met the Prisoner Ombudsman to express concerns about conditions at Maghaberry Prison.
The meeting followed a recent visit to the prison by a Sinn Fein delegation, led by McCartney, which met with republican inmates and a meeting with Justice Minister David Ford.
Speaking after the today’s meeting, Mr McCartney said it was “clear” to Prisoner Ombudsman Tom McGonagle the regime in place at jail was an “infringement of basic human rights” and could continue.
He added: “The main issues raised with Tom McGonagle were the proposed changes to visiting arrangements, strip searches, controlled movement and prisoners being held in isolation.
“We made it clear that the regime in place at the moment is an infringement of basic human rights and cannot continue.
“The agreement reached in 2010 must be implemented as the mechanism to improve the situation in the prison.”
Mr McCartney concluded: “Sinn Féin will continue in our efforts to have all these issues resolved to ensure that all prisoners can be treated with dignity and respect.”
