The announcement by Translink that it has introduced enhanced bus services between Strabane and Derry/Belfast has been welcomed by Sinn Féin MLA Michaela Boyle.
The changes see Strabane passengers now be able to make use of a new morning “through service” to Belfast leaving at 5.30am, resulting no changes needed in Omagh.
A new evening 273 service to Strabane from Foyle Street at 9.15pm to cater for those people working or studying later in the evening in Derry has also been introduced.
In addition, Sunday services between Strabane and Derry have been enhanced to cater for the increased demand for Sunday shopping.
Ms Boyle described the announcement as “welcome news” for the Strabane area, especially for those travelling to Belfast hospitals for early morning appointments or those who work in the cities.
She added: “The lack of public transport from Strabane was an issue of great concern for a number of years.
“Therefore the news that these services have been introduced to service the Strabane area is welcomed.”
