The Mayor of Derry has welcomed £54,000 worth of funding from the Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland for the city’s Pride in Our City scheme.
Cllr Brenda Stevenson said the money would “greatly complement” the good work Derry City Council wasdoing to improve the “look and feel” of the city for citizens and tourists.
She added: “This is significant investment from the Department and a great boost to the city, in particularly the Quayside area, with its fantastic colourful floral displays has successfully showcased the city.
“Over the summer months and following on from the phenomenal success of the LegenDerry Maritime Festival as hosts of the Clipper Race yachts, we have welcomed thousands of international visitors to the city.
“In particular, the Quay walkway area was transformed by the work of Derry City Council’s ground maintenance and cleansing team who worked to ensure that the floral displays where in place and blooming bright and colourful.
“The landscaping and planting that has been carried out at a number of roundabouts is significant in adding to the transformation of the city and providing a landscaped beautiful city for locals and visitors alike.”
Cllr Stevenson concluded: “The continuation of support from the Department for Social Development this year and previous years in enabling this work is as always very much appreciated.”
