APEX housing has been called on “to do more” to secure the fences bordering Ballymagowan housing estate and Sean Dolans GAA Club in Derry Creggan’s estate.
The call comes from Sinn Fein Councillor Kevin Campbell after two sections of the fence separating the estate and the club were removed.
Cllr Campbell said: “Several weeks ago a similar attempt to steal a section of the fence was thwarted by local people and at the time I asked APEX housing to look at making the fence more secure.
“If the fence was spot welded then it would make it harder for the thieves to take sections away without being noticed.
“Sean Dolans GAA Club has served the community for many years and is currently involved in a £250,000 renovation project following the criminal attacks over the past few years.
“I am calling on APEX housing to replace the missing fencing immediately and secure it through spot welding so that it cannot be removed.”
He concluded: “I would appeal to residents of Ballymagowan to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the PSNI or local community activists.”
