The Western Trust’s Recovery College is inviting service users, carers and members of the public, who would like to gain a better understanding of mental health issues, to attend free mental health education workshops.
Registration for the free two hour workshops is essential and anyone who would like to register or find out more information should go along to one of the enrolment sessions on Tuesday next, 9 September from 10.00am – 12 noon at the Omagh Library Headquarters or Thursday next, 11 September from 6.00pm – 8.00pm at the Sperrin Centre, 1 Market Street, Omagh.
Carolyn Maxwell, Head of Recovery Services for the Western Trust said: the workshops were aimed at helping individuals recognise and develop their own personal resilience and resourcefulness, become experts in their own self-care and work towards achieving their goals and ambitions.
She added: “They will help you address obstacles to achieving your goal, offer you opportunities to discover new skills and harness your existing strengths, perhaps by signposting you to useful courses or other sources of support that will also help you grow your support network and reconnect with your community.
“All our workshops are co-designed and co-delivered by individuals with either extensive professional knowledge or knowledge lived through experience of mental health challenges.”
Workshops offered include: Introduction to Mindfulness; Managing Anxiety; Living with Psychosis; Your Rights; Introduction to Recovery; Pain management; Living with Bipolar Illness; Stepping Stones to Wellness; Introduction to Wellness Recovery Action Plan and Sharing Skills to Promote Learning for Health.
This is a pilot project and the Trust intend to expand the service to include longer courses if the initial workshops are considered to be helpful to those who attend.
The Recovery College will provide opportunities for those who may wish to volunteer and share their lived experience to benefit others or train as trainers or support workers.
If you are in distress or despair counsellors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Lifeline (0808 808 8000) to listen to you and give you the help and support you need, in confidence.
