Derry is to be included in a new Early Intervention Service aimed at tackling child poverty.
The city has been included in the service under the Early Intervention Transformation Programme which is funded by six departments and Atlantic Philanthropies to a tune of £25 million.
Local Sinn MLA has welcomed the city’s inclusion in the service.
Speaking after a meeting of Derry’s Child Poverty Forum, Ms. McLaughlin, chairperson of the Stormont Health Committee, said: “Early intervention models are critical support models that have been identified as a key catalyst project from Derry’s One plan in tackling child poverty across the city.”
She concluded: “It is important that the city now shapes and drives this programme to ensure it is targeted and changes in the way we do business to provide better outcomes for our children and young people.”
