The Mayor of Derry is to host a reception this week for the city’s Commonwealth Games Games medal winners.
Boxers Conor Coyle and Sean McGlinchey became the first fighters from the city to win medals at the Games in almost 30 years when they each brought home bronze medals from Glasgow 2014 in July.
Coyle (24), of St Joseph’s ABC in Galliagh, lost his semi-final bout to Indian Vijender Singh while Oak Leaf’s McGlinchey (22) was defeated in his light-heavyweight last four contest by David Nyika, from New Zealand
The pair became the first boxers from Derry to win medals at the Games since Creggan man, Roy Nash, won silver in the bantamweight division at the 1986 Games held in Edinburgh.
Mayor Cllr Brendan Stevenson will host the reception for the pair in the city’s Guildhall on Wednesday night.
