An under-strength Derry City suffered their heaviest domestic defeat of the season when beaten 5-0 by Dundalk in their Airtricity Premier Division clash at Oriel Park tonight.
As expected, Candystripes boss Peter Hutton took no chances with his starting line-up ahead of Friday’s FAI Cup quarter-final clash against Drogheda, making seven changes from the side that defeated Sligo Rovers at Brandywell on Friday night last.
City found themselves a goal down in the first minute, Darren Meenan firing the home side in front.
Kurtis Byrne doubled the home side’s lead in the 34th minute got on the end of a Massey cross.
Massey put the game beyond Derry’s reach five minutes later gave Ciaran Gallagher no chance with a brilliant free knick from the corner of the penalty box.
Pat Hoban added a fourth in the 53rd minute with a super strike.
Brian Garland rubbed salt in the City wounds heading home a Meenan corner in the 56th minute.
